Our CoMotion Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) award has been welcomed by Trudy Harrison, Minister at the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom:

“Seeing ENSO be internationally recognised by CoMotionLA for its innovation in the development of #EVs is a real win for British #innovation. This once again underlines the brilliant work taking place in the UK tech and transport sectors as we drive down emissions and clean up the air we breathe on both sides of the Atlantic."

As Transport Minister, Trudy Harrison is responsible for the decarbonisation of transport (including the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) and the future of transport (including the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles).

Gunnlaugur Erlendsson, CEO and founder of ENSO:

“Winning the ComotionLA Award is fantastic, as it places ENSO into the heart of America’s EV revolution that has strong origins in California. We are already doing so much in London, having implemented London FreightLab in partnership with the Mayor of London, with our innovation partners, DPD UK and Royal Mail. And now with our special partnership with Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), ENSO will now have a platform in California to break into the US EV market, where the opportunities towards the US, and indeed globally, are considerable.”

ENSO, the UK company that has developed a revolutionary new tire for electric vehicles (EVs) has won the LA New Mobility Challenge. The Award was made at CoMotionLA that was sponsored by the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) and the UK Government. ENSO won the award for its radical approach to tire manufacturing; its tires increase EV-range while reducing both air pollution and micro-plastic tire particulate matter pollution, which is a major pollutant of the world’s oceans and rivers. By winning the award, ENSO will be fast-tracked for consideration into LACI's portfolio of sustainable mobility companies in the United States, contributing to ENSO’s future activity in Los Angeles and Southern California. ENSO also received a US$10k in prize money from LACI and CoMotionLA. Gunnlaugur Erlendsson, CEO and founder of ENSO Tyres: “Winning the ComotionLA Award is fantastic, as it places ENSO into the heart of America’s EV revolution that has strong origins in California. Climate change and poor air quality affects us all and tires are part of the problem. ENSO is here to change this, developing sustainable tires for electric vehicles that tread lightly on our planet by keeping the rubber on the road and out of our air and oceans. Founded by disruptive entrepreneur Gunnlaugur Erlendsson. As a business ENSO is driven by sustainability and creating a balance in how we live and move. This belief is central to how they act, design and make their products, making them a perfect fit as Blue Earth Summit partners. You can meet them in the Exhibition Hall on day one of the event, lay your hands on one of their tires and discover how they can allow you to go further, reducing energy consumption in the process. Gunnlaugur Erlendsson, ENSO Founder and CEO said: “ENSO’s is delighted to partner Blue Earth Summit. We are an innovative automotive start-up, exclusively focused on electric vehicles (EVs). We are proud of, and passionate about, our socially conscious and environmentally friendly mission statement: to develop better tires for EVs and future autonomous vehicles (AVs), delivering sustainable mobility by improving the performance of EVs/AVs and reducing the environmental impact of their tires. ENSO is driven by sustainability and creating a balance in how we live and move – today and tomorrow"

The six to nine-month trial will see innovative tires fitted to selected electric vans to test their emission-reducing and efficiency-enhancing capabilities. This week, Royal Mail is embarking on a trial in which emission-reducing tires will be fitted to some of the Company’s electric vans over the course of six to nine months. The trial, a partnership between Royal Mail, Transport for London (TfL) and tire manufacturer ENSO, aims at making Electric Vehicles (EVs) even cleaner to further improve air quality. Although electric vehicles issue zero tailpipe emissions, their tires may emit more particulate matter and road wear compared to diesel and petrol vehicles, due to their increased weight and torque. The special tires are expected to produce fewer microparticle emissions compared to standard tires and could also improve efficiency by extending electric vehicle range. Fifteen electric vans at the West London Delivery Office, near Wembley, will be fitted with the specialist tires. During the trial, the tires will be monitored and weighed every six weeks to measure their wear rate, estimate particulate matter emitted, and range achieved in comparison to standard tires. If the trial is successful, its results may inform future purchasing decisions across Royal Mail’s fleet. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2021/08/19/royal-mail-tests-new-tyres-cut-air-pollution/

DPD and ENSO team up to trial revolutionary EV tires to reduce air and microplastic pollution in London Trial part of TFL’s London FreightLab Innovation Challenge. The parcel industry sustainability leader DPD is joining forces with the electric vehicle (EV) tire innovator ENSO to conduct full road trials of an innovative new tire for commercial EVs, that are designed to reduce air and microplastic pollution. The DPD/ENSO trial is a part of Transport for London’s FreightLab Innovation Challenge, which is encouraging innovations that will tackle London’s air pollution and road congestion due to increased freight movement in the Greater London area. The London FreightLab Innovation Challenge is backed by the Mayor of London. Tires are largely made of fossil fuels, and as they wear down emit more air pollution than tailpipes with tire particulate matter (PM) pollution also making up 28% of all primary ocean microplastics. Tire pollution is an even bigger problem for EVs as their increased weight and torque wears tires faster, and so EVs often emit more tire PM pollution than standard vehicles. ENSO, headquartered in London, is one of the winners of TfL’s London FreightLab Innovation Challenge, and has developed a revolutionary new tire that increases EV-range on a single charge, while reducing both air and micro plastic tire PM pollution.

ENSO was featured on SKY NEWS' Daily Climate Show today. SKY NEWS reported on how we are teaming up with DPD and the Mayor of London as part of London FreightLab. The SKY NEWS broadcast is available to watch via this Link - https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/601078648

THE MEANING OF ENSO

We are often asked why we named our company ENSO. An ‘ensō’ in Zen Buddhism means a hand-drawn circle, created in a single brushstroke that symbolises strength, elegance, and the circularity of nature. Creating an ‘ensō’ circle relies on both concentration and mindfulness, clearing your mind while being fully present in the moment. When painted with black pigment, an ‘ensō’ also looks very much like a tire. As a company developing a circular business model for tires, we felt that ENSO gave us a clean and holistic tire brand that symbolised that we are looking to work in harmony with nature, to bring together sustainability and better performance for electric vehicles. Ultimately it is vital that we take better care of our nature, people and planet, to find a balanced way of living. We would love you to join us on this journey and become part of our circle

ENSO is delighted to announce its partnership with the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC), the manufacturers of the iconic London electric taxi, and ZETI, a UK FinTech that has financed fleets of electric taxis in London. LEVC is leading the charge to provide green mobility solutions that accelerate cleaner cities around the world. Based in Coventry, LEVC is world famous for developing the London black taxi cab. It is wholly owned by Geely, which also owns Volvo, Polestar and Lotus. ZETI is revolutionising transport financing, using technology and data to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission transport. ZETI is working with LEVC to provide fleets of electric taxis to operators in London, charging for those vehicles on a Pay-Per-Mile model. As such, they are an ideal partner for ENSO to deploy in London its Direct-to-Consumer, Tires-as-a-Service, ahead of our wider commercial roll-out. This unique partnership with LEVC and ZETI has been funded by the Niche Vehicle Network, and will deploy ENSO’s range-extending EV tires to over 100 of ZETI’s LEVC electric taxis later this year, targeting substantial improvements in EV range of ≥10%, while measuring tire performance and emissions. This opportunity represents both a strong collaboration with a leading EV-carmaker and a leading EV-fleet financier, and also provides a platform for ENSO to publicly demonstrate our better EV tires and our Direct-to-Consumer business model at scale here in London, ahead of our commercial launch.
